Buttercup Bag

Alex got me a new sewing machine for Christmas, because he’s awesome like that, so I’ve added a million sewing projects to my already existing gazillion crafty projects list.

Here’s a picture of Emerald.  Isn’t she pretty-so modern looking!

I have discovered that I am definitely better at sewing from online tutorials than from sewing patterns.  Patterns seem to be deliberately misleading and confusing.  I’m working on a couple of little girl patterns right now and I have had to ripout and redo stitches more times than I care to count.

I loved this buttercup bag from Made by Rae as soon as I saw it.  Who can ever have enough cute little purses and it also has pleats!  I heart pleats.  She graciously has the tutorial and pattern for free on her blog.  The pattern was easy to follow and I actually whipped this out during one naptime with fabric scraps that I had lying around.  That’s my kind of project!  I’m all about the instant gratification.

I think I might try to make the pattern a little larger to make a bigger bag next time.  For me to actually use it day to day I need a little more room for some diapers and wipes and matchbox cars-you know, the necessities.

I’ll keep you updated on my from-pattern sewing projects as soon as I finish cursing them and actually manage to finish one.

I’ve been thinking about posting some crafty tutorials on my blog. Maybe I should start with a tutorial for one of these problematic patterns. Which pattern are you eager to finish, but having trouble with?

I love that bag! I’ll have to download the pattern and try it out for myself! Thanks for sharing.

Lizzie: I think I have figured out my 2 problematic patterns now. I’ll probably need some help when I start my next one.
I, personally, am always looking for a simple, cute little girl or baby dress tutorial.
